Reworking Manet at The Courtauld Gallery
Join us at The Courtauld for a crash course in Art History.
Throughout the morning, you will discover what Art History is, find out why students choose to study it, and develop some basic visual analysis techniques. Putting this new knowledge into practice, you will then tour The Courtauld Gallery with a gallery educator, discovering The Courtauld's world-renowned Impressionist collection.
One of The Courtauld's masterpieces is Édouard Manet’s famous painting, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882). It is considered one of Manet's finest works because it pushes at the boundaries of art and portraiture in many different ways. Throughout the afternoon, you'll dive deeper into this artwork, looking at how it has influenced contemporary artists and society, before creating your own practical response to the painting.
This session will cover a mixture of History of Art and Fine Art. You need no prior knowledge of Art History to attend.
The Courtauld Gallery will provide a sandwich lunch.
