Camden Challenge: Heatherwick x STORE

For the first time, London-based design and educational association STORE will unite with acclaimed Heatherwick Studio for the HEATHERWICK x STORE Camden Challenge in Coal Drops Yard

A two-week workshop in architecture, art and design. You will work with experimental design and construction projects to create large-scale installations and an ambitious public performance and celebratory final event, a mini food market, which will draw together a diverse public to interact with your creations. The Summer School will be led by experienced architects, artists and designers, all dedicated to helping you realise your unique design vision. Through material testing and engagement with Coal Drops Yard and its surroundings, you will explore architecture, food and design to understand the dynamics of the city while developing the skills to intervene effectively and creatively on the project. You are invited to be part of a diverse, energetic and creative group, guided by a hands-on, often playful design process driven by physical prototyping and testing. Through working together on an ambitious group build, you will be encouraged to develop your confidence to lead and enjoy working as part of a team. Regular design critiques, photography and portfolio tutorials will provide valuable opportunities for critical reflection on their work both as a team and as individuals. This is an intensive course that requires you to be on time and committed. Some places are for students who (please indicate on your application if you are eligible) had neither parent attend university, have been in local authority care, are young carers themselves, have a disability affecting their studies, or are eligible for free school meals. This class has an application question: Why would you like to take part in this Challenge? What interests and skills will you contribute to your team? How will you benefit from taking part? Please email your response to steampledge@camden.gov.uk
